BTOS

Convergent Technologis made these systems for other computer sellers.  Most notable among them for these systems was Burroughs.  Their model number for these systems was the B20 system.  Not to be confused with B25 and higher, which would have been the Burroughs equivalent of the NGEN system.

BTOS was very similar to CTOS, but was made for Burroughs.  We'll tell you more here as we learn about the differences, from research and actual system restoration & comparison.

View the BTOS/CTOS Overview video (thank you eznix for making this video!):

But let's start with this question:  What does BTOS stand for?

Burroughs _____________ Operating System?  If so, what's the blank?

More to come, we hope.  If you're reading this and you know, tell us below!  Or click Contact above and email us!

  1. I worked for Burroughs/UNISYS and supported BTOS for same. At the time we also wondered what the BT was. Never got an official answer. But I suspect the Burroughs marketing guys just took [C]onvergent [T]echnology OS (CTOS) and said we can't have that so we will call it Burroughs Technology OS. All this is just speculation on my part. As I say I never heard an official explanation of what BTOS stood for.

    1. Thanks so much for your comment here! This has always been our speculation as well, so thanks for sharing that YOU, even as an insider, also were in the dark and had to guess...very interesting!
